Description
  • First woman to attend I.U., first woman to graduate from I.U., and first woman to become a member of the faculty of Indiana University. Morrison came to Indiana University in 1867 and graduated with the AB degree in 1869. Morrison is also considered the first female to become a member of the faculty. The 1873 catalog lists her title as "Tutor and Governess of the Young Ladies". The 1874 catalog, page 12, lists her specific title as "Tutor". The 1875 catalog, page 10 and elsewhere, lists her specific title as "Adjunct Professor of English Literature". Finally, in T.A. Wylie's 1890 book "Indiana University, It's History from 1820...", page 146, he notes of her titles "...first as tutor, and afterward as adjunct Professor of English Literature". Morrison Hall in the Wells Quadrangle is named after her.
