  • Fleming's description typed and written on the reverse side of the image reads, in full: "Closer view of the kaput Remagen Bridge. It was damaged and weakened mainly by shellfire. Planes couldn't get near it. Old-timers said they'd never seen such a concentration of anti-aircraft guns since Normandy. Each gun was assigned a small zone of fire over the bridge so that if all fired at once the bridge was completely covered by a canopy. This method was use mainly at night when enemy planes could be heard but not seen. The countless firey tracers were a sight to see each night. See A-16. Near Unkel, Ger -- 20 March 45."
